Page history last edited by mary miner 6 years, 3 months ago

http://www.thinkport.org/middle-school-social-studies.html  War of 1812, underground railroad, Maryland state info, and a variety of other social studies lessons all on one site.

http://www.thinkport.org/high-school-social-studies.html  Electoral college, War of 1812, and Ports, as well as other lessons for high school students.

Mixed sites

http://www.schoolhistory.co.uk/usahelp.html This site has a wide variety of British history, American history, and ancient history websites.  It is worth the time to explore.

http://www.mission-us.org/ Created for use in middle and high school classes.  Mission US looks at different transformational moments in American history.  Set up as missions, the games immerse the players in the settings and situations much like real people experienced those same choices. Using primary source documentation to help players understand the broader view of the history, some of the material may be difficult so adult viewing prior to use is advised.  Missions:  For Crown or Colony, Flight to Freedom, A Cheyenne Odyssey, City of Immigrants, and Up from the Dust.

http://www.learner.org/interactives/historical/ This site explains the use of, how to evaluate and gain information from original documents.  Excellent site.

Ancient History - under construction

http://www.ancientcivilizations.co.uk/home_set.html This website looks at ancient civilizations around the world via themes: Cities, Religion, Technology, Trade, Writing, and Buildings.

http://www.mesopotamia.co.uk/menu.html# When the website opens, put your cursor over Sumer.  You will see two sections open up - The Royal Tombs of Ur and Ziggurats.  Click on one or the other.  Each one has three parts, 1) story, 2) explore, and 3) challenge.  There are also sections about 1) Geography, 2) Gods, Goddesses, Demons, and Monsters, 3) Time, and 4) Writing.  Each one has the same three parts as stated above.  I challenge you to try some of the challenges.  They are not all that easy so be forewarned.

This site also has a section on Babylonia and Assyria.  Click on the name in the link to find out more.

http://www.ancientegypt.co.uk/menu.html This is the exact same format as the one above.  They are all done by the British Museum.  Subjects covered are Egyptian Life, Geography, Gods and Goddesses, Mummification, Pharaohs, Pyramids, Temples, Time, Trades, and Writing.  These are always fun and some are a bit difficulty and may take some time and thought.

http://www.ancientindia.co.uk/indus/explore/exp_set.html Same format as above.  Excellent information and lots of fun.

http://www.ancientchina.co.uk/menu.html  Same as above.  The following topics are covered:  Crafts and Artisans, Geography, Time, Tombs and Ancestors, and Writing.

http://www.earlyimperialchina.co.uk/room.html This is from the same group as above but a different format.  You will need to seek out information and activities from an office room.  Click around to see what you can find.  Information on Chinese emperors, the Great Wall of China, Arts and Crafts, every day life in imperial China, war, religion, art and architecture, trade, transport, and more.

http://chooseyourstory.com/story/phoenician-trade-game This is a story game.  You make choices as you go through the story which causes different outcomes.  Read carefully and make wise choices.  You will learn about the Phoenicians as you go.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryhistory/indus_valley/land_of_the_indus/  This has wonderful information and activities.  However, it is "geared" to a youngerish audience.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/education/topics/zxn3r82 Another great site for those interested in the Indus Valley.

http://www.gamepuma.com/puzzle-games/Indus-Valley---Hidden-Treasure.html Be an archeologist and find all the clues and info about the peoples of the Indus Valley.

http://www.kidtopia.info/ancient_civilizations.html This is a little young for high school especially but has a good number of interactive websites linked to ancient civilizations.  It is worth a look.  Also has some videos.

http://ancienthistory.mrdonn.org/games.html  An excellent website curated by a history teacher with all sorts of interactive things for all periods of history both world and american.

https://www.abookintime.com/history-games/ancient-world-games.html An in-depth website of interactive websites about archeology, ancient world history from "prehistory" through the Aztecs and Incas.  Videos, games, virtual field trips are all here.

https://www.abookintime.com/history-games/middle-ages-games.html  From the same group that did the one above however this is more about the Middle ages.  It also looks at the Vikings, Castles, Knights, and the Black Plague.

https://www.abookintime.com/history-games/discovery-games.html Again from the same group but moving to the Renaissance through King Henry VIII, Elizabeth, Shakespeare, London Plague and Fire, and Victorian Era.

https://www.abookintime.com/history-games/present-era-games.html The last one from this group, starting with the 1800's, Napoleon, US Immigration, Civil War, 1900's, WWI, WWII, Holocaust, and Modern China.

https://www.abookintime.com/history-games/history-geography-games.html Same group but this is various history games and some geography games and links.

https://www.abookintime.com/history-games/american-history-games.html This page focuses strictly on American history interactive websites and games.
